Utility-scale solar developer Atlantic Green Power has secured preliminary approval for the first part of one of the largest utility-scale solar projects in the eastern United States.
The company is developing a 74.6-megawatt solar photovoltaic project across 512 acres of a two-site, 700-acre property leased in the Upper Pittsgrove Township, Salem County, in the south-west of its home state of New Jersey.
Yesterday it said it now has preliminary site plan approval from the local Land Use Board for the 177-acre eastern site, giving it zoning permission to set up solar panels on 88 acres of the plot.
The Board is expected to decide on the 335-acre western tract when it reconvenes in June.
When the full 74.6MW facility is up and running, it will provide enough renewable energy to supply around 15,000 local homes with electricity.
