The new UK coalition government has cut £85 million from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) budget as part of a first wave of £6 billion of cuts across departments for 2010/2011. As a result, funding of the Low Carbon Buildings Programme (LCBP), which included the previously establish funding for solar installations has been dropped. As yet no changes to the recently introduced UK FiT system have been announced.
According to PV-Tech’s sister website, solarpowerportal.co.uk, the LCBP had been successful in driving the adoption of microgeneration technology, including PV, having providing approximately 20,000 grants for the capital and installation costs since the scheme started in 2006.
Applications worth £63 million for payment in 2010-11 were said to be unaffected by the cuts.
